Background
As part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence session, Communities Thrive Organization (CTO) organized a community awareness session to raise understanding about the causes, forms, and consequences of GBV. The session aimed to empower women and girls to speak up, seek help, and participate actively in building safer communities.
Objectives
To increase community awareness about GBV and its impact on women and families.
To promote respect, equality, and non-violence within households and communities.
To encourage survivors and witnesses to report GBV incidents safely.
Activities Conducted
An interactive awareness session led by CTO facilitator, focusing on understanding GBV, prevention, and available support services.
Group discussions that encouraged participants to share personal views and community experiences.
Production of an awareness video highlighting messages of women’s empowerment, resilience, and the importance of ending gender-based violence.
Key Results
20 community members reached with clear messages on GBV prevention and women’s rights.
Increased awareness among participants about how to identify and respond to cases of violence.
The awareness video produced served as a tool for broader outreach and continued advocacy on social media.
Participants expressed motivation to share the message with others in their community.
Conclusion
The session strengthened women’s voices and confidence, while the awareness video amplified their message beyond the event. CTO remains committed to promoting equality, respect, and the protection of all women and girls from violence.
